 I Am Legend - Scary Stuff by texasbeth76012The idea of some mutated virus sweeping the planet and killing most if not all of the world’s population isn’t new. It is one of the most plausible disasters that face mankind. The virus that wreaks havoc in this movie is the result of people playing God and modifying the DNA of a measles virus as a cancer cure. There is a God theme in the movie that plays out at the end and sent chills up my spine even though I am not particularly religious. |

Will Smith is a good actor even when he spends 90% of the movie being the only human character in the movie. The idea that the virus turns a small fraction of the infected population into some kind of dark seeking zombies is hokie but without that element it would probably be boring. Some of the action with the zombies scared the crap out of me. The special effects are pretty awesome. Especially the scenes of NY. Some of the CG zombies and animals (zombie dogs, rats, lions) looked fake. Overall the movie is entertaining with moments of humor and leaves you doing some serious thinking long after the movie is over. I don’t go to many movies I have been looking forward to this one. I got my money’s worth and Will Smith is always entertaining.
